Hākari Fusion: A hāngi at Government House

Tihei Mauri Ora! You’re invited to join the ballot for Hākari Fusion, a once in a lifetime experience on Saturday 10 August.

The event is hosted by The Rt Hon Dame Cindy Kiro, GNZM, QSO, Governor-General of New Zealand and will see a feast combining traditional and modern Māori cuisine prepared on the grounds of her Wellington residence.

Guests will watch on, enjoying drinks and canapés as a hāngi is lifted, before being served a delicious dinner prepared by the Hāngi Master Rewi Spraggon and the chefs at Government House, led by Simon Peacock.

Rewi has long been on a mission to bring traditional Māori kai back to the mainstream in Aotearoa and has constructed hāngi pits for the event which will become a permanent fixture at Government House. He says it will be an awesome experience for attendees to get an understanding of  the cooking process and to enjoy food that they hadn’t previously associated with hāngi.

Tickets for this historic event will be free, but capacity is limited so these will be allocated by ballot. You can apply for a maximum of two tickets and only one entry is permitted per person.

The ballot is open now until 11.59pm on 12 June and successful ticket holders will be notified on 13 June.
