Totō

v. rise up, trickle, flow

Totō is named after the Kumutoto stream which flows beneath and is adjacent to an original sacred Pa site. In the 1830s, the Kumutoto Pa sat on the ridge overlooking the stream, the ridge is now The Terrace, while the stream continues to run beneath the land to its outlet at the Kumutoto Wharf on Wellington's waterfront.
