Known as Pito-One in te reo Māori, the name translates to the ‘end of the sand beach’ in reference to the sweeping sandy shoreline. • Seashore Cabaret - If waterfront living is your style, this local favourite is the perfect spot for brunch while watching the waves caress Petone’s picturesque foreshore. This retro-tastic eatery serves up classic cafe fare day and night. 

• Kilim - Middle Eastern flavours take centre stage at this authentic Turkish eatery.  Offering a delectable range of kebabs and mezzes. Do yourself a favour and take your tastebuds on a trip to Istanbul. There’s another Kilim in the CBD, but this one is where it all began.

• Gear Street Union - Housed in the old Wellington Motorcycles building, Gear Street Union is decked out with cool car memorabilia including a vintage Bedford pickup! Their outdoor terrace is the perfect spot to catch up with friends, and you can even bring your canine companion for a doggy date. 

• Comes & Goes - The fabulous team at Comes & Goes offers cafe classics alongside chic Korean staples like Bimbibap and Korean Fried Chicken. Be prepared to queue if you’re in for brunch on Sundays!

• La Bella Italia - This authentic Italian deli and restaurant is a must visit for foodies. Pop in for lunch and pick up supplies for your next Tuscan feast! Think deli meats, cheeses, pastas and gorgeous imported goods. Grazie!

• The Lucky Cat - Fresh asian-inspired dishes take center stage at this smart eatery in the heart of Petone.  There’s great lunch deals as well as fun dinner deals for beer, bao and bubbles that will have you leaving with a happy puku and wallet. 

• House of Good Fortune - Wellingtonians are blessed with an abundance of quality local coffee, and the House of Good Fortune cafe and roastery is no exception. All their coffees are fair trade, organic and roasted here in beautiful Petone, plus they pay a living wage. Pop in for a cuppa and feel good while you’re at it!

• Viva Mexico - If you’re looking for authentic Mexican food, Viva Mexico is one of the best in the area if you’re looking for fresh and flavourful food. There’s more than tacos on the menu, the chichaquilas are a must try, and they have a couple more outlets dotted around the city. 

• Olé  - You can’t miss Olé, the name of the restaurant is clearly spelled out in giant red letters on its window. While this Spanish eatery is modest in size, it has a big heart. Expect authentic Spanish classics such as paella, tapas and churrasco.
