Festival to kick off with 3 Pop-ups in 1 Night
Visa Wellington On a Plate’s set to swing into action on Thursday 1 August, with three incredible pop-up events going down on the same block off Cuba Street!

First at our festival opening event, Hija de Sanchez Taqueria with Rosio Sanchez, Kiwi food lovers will get an education in Mexican gastronomy at Loretta, in a very special Singapore Airlines International Chef Collaboration.
Sanchez, who has been described as the Taco Queen of Copenhagen, hails from La Villita, Chicago, but made her name at the world-famous Noma as the head pastry chef. Since then she’s been serving the Mexican food of her childhood at her Hija de Sanchez Taquerias throughout the Danish capital. Her commitment to using high quality ingredients and authentic techniques has made her hugely successful and has led to appearances on well-known food series such as Chef’s Table, Ugly Delicious, and Somebody Feed Phil.
After enjoying Rosio’s world-class tacos, you can wander down to Garage Project’s Wild Workshop for Matsuri Madness - a Japanese-inspired celebration to launch the Festival beer Red Dog. Enjoy delicious Japanese kiosk-style street food, prepared by the team from Margot Restaurant, while dynamic projections transport you to the streets of Tokyo.
At this point in the evening you’ll be ready for dessert, so head to Swan Lane where Kāpiti Ice Cream and Good Fortune Coffee will be parked up with their Affogato Caravan and settle in for an indulgent treat, served in an edible cookie cup.
If after all that you’re still hungry for more, there’s 30 more days of the festival to go, jam-packed full of tasty events and mouth-watering burgers!
Hija de Sanchez Taqueria with Rosio Sanchez is proudly supported by Singapore Airlines, QT Hotel Wellington and the Mexico Embassy.
