Community Aroha curated list

These events and burger showcase how Food is Love through their support and appreciation of their communities. Whether that be a celebration of our rainbow community at Floriditas, Everybody Eats consistently hosting koha-based events and funding kai for those in need, or a show of aroha for our canine companions at 4Paws Empire — love really is all around.

A feast with purpose, where every bowl makes a difference. Celebrate the final day of Visa Wellington On a Plate and the end of winter with the ultimate comfort food: mac 'n' cheese, served all day long. Two of Wellington’s legendary food rescue and community dining champions, Everybody Eats and Kaibosh, are joining forces to serve piping hot mac 'n' cheese, raising funds to help feed the community. As official charity partners of the festival, they are turning comfort food into real impact. For just $10, each bowl will help fund a three-course meal for someone in need through Everybody Eats or provide a day’s worth of food for a family via Kaibosh. Customise your mac with a range of toppings and flavours, all made from rescued food, showcasing just how delicious food recovery can be. In the lead-up to the event, Everybody Eats and Kaibosh will be calling on their social media followers to share their favourite mac 'n' cheese combos, with the top picks featured on the day. Diners can enjoy their meal seated in the Everybody Eats restaurant or opt for takeaway to share with the whānau or flat. The goal is to serve 2,000 bowls and fund 2,000 meals for the community. Join the celebration, enjoy incredible kai and help make a real difference.

Dragons Is My Uso

Fri 29 Aug, 5:30pm - 7:30pm & 8pm - 10pm

CC

Chef Jessica Tang and legendary home chefs Litia Lefaoseu and Iutita Mallon are drawing on the century long fusion of Chinese and Samoan cuisine and the way food expresses love, ai, and alofa. In the late 1800s, small numbers of Chinese settled in Samoa and became part of a growing multicultural community. There they influenced local customs, made an enduring contribution to Samoan cuisine introducing contemporary favourites such as sapasui (chop suey), keke pua‘a (pork buns) and of course laisa (rice). Dragons celebrate this cultural and culinary fusion by showcasing these favourites and presenting new dishes highlighting the shared love of culinary staples such as taro and noodles, rice, fish, and pork, the magnificent spectrum of Chinese herbs, spices and flavours. Through cooking and sharing food together the chefs honour their culinary heritage, strengthen our connections to one another and celebrate the big and little moments in life. This is a shared-style meal, served banquet style on lazy Susan turntables. Dragons is My Uso was one of the sell-out hits of the 2024 festival - don't miss out! Discounted tables for 10 available for $1000, so get the whole aiga together!
