Want to eat all the burgers, sip on fabulous cocktails and dine out on a festival dish in one place? Well, this weekend you can as Garage Project presents Burger Wellington, Dine Wellington and Cocktail Wellington presented by Tommy’s are all happening in the same time! A whopping 34 venues are participating in all three, if we included everyone this would be a feature length novel so we’ve just picked out a sprinkling to get you started.
Bin44 are bringing the hot chicken for their ‘Tropical Thunder’ Burger, if that’s not your style tuck into their festival dish ‘Noodle Me This’ which celebrates the pacific cultures here in Pōneke. Wash it all down with 'The Butterfly effect', featuring Denzien Te Aro Dry gin infused with butterfly pea flowers, elderflower liqueur, lime juice and sugar syrup topped with a passion fruit rum float.
One of the city’s favourite, Capitol, presents a considered trio starting with their ‘Windy City Soufflé’ paying homage to Wellington’s wild weather. For their burger the team take a deep dive into the sea with their ‘Act of Cod’. Gin lovers will rejoice with their ‘State of Grace’ cocktail, featuring Scapegrace black gin, lemon juice, Capitol quince syrup and soda water garnished with dehydrated quince.
Charley Noble are drawing on their international team for their dine dish ‘The Han-guk Cook: Master Yeong’ to showcase Master Yeong’s Duck Bulgogi as a celebration of their story and the team behind the dream. It’s no surprises that they’re doing a delicious lamb burger this year with a name like ‘Lambton Quay’. Finish up with their ‘Gin Tectonic’ which features Denzien Te Aro Dry Gin, raki, orange liqueur, maraschino liqueur, Bootleggers tonic, butterfly pea flower tincture, pomegranate lava and sherbet. They are offering a non-alcoholic too called the Magnitude Six featuring Six Barrel Soda no less!
Dockside presents the fantastical ‘Super-pāuā-fragalisticexpialadoshus’ which is unmissable for seafood fans. Burger fans can look forward to ‘The Swapper’ featuring a crumbed beef fillet. And to drink, try their ‘The New Old Fashioned’ Spiced rum, tart apple syrup, peach bitters, Bee Fresh mānuka honey and Benedictine, garnished with pickled pear, cherry and an orange citrus twist.
Local favourites Monsoon Poon present ‘This Little Piggy Went to Wellington’ which celebrates the Asian homage of their kitchen team. The bold will love their ‘Duck’n Burger’ which is all about the duck. After all this deliciousness quench your thirst with the ‘Ban Chi Chi La La’ which features Reid + Reid Rev. Dawson's gin, lime liqueur, Vietnamese mint, pink peppercorn, lemon, pineapple and orange blossom.
