Open for Business: Dragons
March 10, 2022
Over the years, Dragons won the heart of many Wellingtonians and visitors from across the country. It became an institution where people come to socialise and share delicious traditional Cantonese/Hong Kong kai. When the restaurant is open, pedestrians walking nearby will instantly be exposed to the fragrances and sounds of a busy service. More recently, Dragons have pivoted in response to the new restrictions under RED and are now offering "Dragon Express": an at-home delivery system that's as fast as Dragon's impressive yum char service. Read up our conversation with Eric Kong, assistant CEO of Dragons.

Tell us what makes you special? Classic Family orientated Chinese Food is what we’re about. Serving the freshest Wellington ingredients and produce in our Cantonese/Hong Kong style cooking to enhance the natural flavours of the ingredients. With a wide array of anything between Live Seafood, Traditional Chinese Banquet dishes to a bounty of Dumplings pushed out in a steam trolley, we’ve got something on the menu for everyone.
What support would you love to see from your guests? We understand that many are working from home during this period and we get it. So, we’ve created our own Food Platform called Dragons Express to cater straight to your door. We’d love for you to jump on our website and enjoy our Traditional Chinese Kai.
Any favourites on the menu? Our Hong Kong Fried Rice with Chinese Sausage, Spam and Pork Floss has become a cult favourite after our Collaboration with Floriditas in a previous WOAP event. Found under the Chefs Recommendation page in our menu. This dish is a fusion of Colonial Hong Kong & British Influence.
Where can we find you when you're not at Dragons? Maranui Cafe for lunch is always a picturesque location with Eastern Suburb Ocean views and the perfect spot for a coffee and a grab to eat. Shepherd is my go-to spot for the perfect dinner, their Venison Tataki is to die for!
Any quotes or thoughts you want to share? “Dragons, a Chinese restaurant that I love. It's definitely a chef's spot, too. It's yum cha, it's classic, it's been around forever. You see everyone from A-list celebrities filming stuff with Weta Workshop to cooks - it's a real hodgepodge of people” - Monique Fiso
