Open for Business: Lashings

February 21, 2022

Whether for your team lunch outings, dinner adventures or spontaneous cravings, now is the perfect time to get out and explore the open doors of Welly. Find the hidden gem or reconnect with an old favourite. We've chatted with the venues 'behind the doors' and for our second episode of our 'Open for Business' series, we discussed with Jackie Lee Morrison (a.k.a #GirlBoss) from Lashings!

Tell us about yourself: I'm Jackie, I'm the owner-operator of Lashings, Wellington's premiere boutique brownie bar and specialist dessert café. We've been around for five years, four years in our Central Wellington shop on the corner of Eva/Dixon Streets, just above Eva Beva.

Tell us what makes you special? All of our brownies are made with single-origin 70% dark chocolate, produced by Baron Hasselhoff, right here in Wellington. We try to support and source local as much as possible, using Fix & Fogg peanut butter in one of our most popular brownies (one of our neighbours on the laneway), Six Barrel Soda (who used to operate out of our site before we moved in), Wellington Chocolate Factory (another of our neighbours), Havana Coffee Works, Libertine Blends Tea, and many more. We're a small business who are all about local community, high quality ingredients, and creating the best food we possibly can.

What support would you love to see from your guests? We know that going out right now isn't what everyone wants to do, which is why you can order a selection of goodies online for home delivery within the Wellington region, or, if you're a little further away, brownies and our "life-changing" GF Caramel Slice. We would love to see you if you're in the city, Tuesday–Saturday. Check our website for full details of current opening hours and how to order!

What's a favourite on your menu? Our #SoNuts (sourdough donuts) are always a big hit. Currently available Saturdays only, we change the flavour every week. Come and see us, or order online for home delivery!

Where are you picking up lunch/dinner/brunch on your day off? At the top of my list is always Soul Shack, Taste of Home, Floridita's, Field & Green, Pour & Twist, Grace Patisserie, Shepherd and Café Polo. There are so many more, but they're some of my faves. We're so lucky in Wellington to have such fantastic local businesses, all run by incredible hard-working people.

Any quotes or thoughts you want to share? Food is love, which is why all of us got into hospitality: to spread love with food. We hope that during these difficult and challenging times, we can still do that. Kia kaha.
