How to support hospo and eat your way around the Red Light

January 31, 2022

As we kick the new year off under Red Light, now is the time to #lovelocal and support our hard-working hospo community. Whilst the shift to Red has put the brakes on events, it doesn't mean that you can’t eat out or drink at a restaurant, hotel, cafe or bar.

Here are some tips on how you can help our local hospo friends and feed your puku with delicious treats while keeping yourself and the others safe.

Just get booked

Be proactive and plan outings with your food crew! Making a game plan for your foodie adventures under Red Light will save you a lot of time, especially given some outlets are limiting walk-ins and seatings. This also gives confidence for restaurants to plan ahead. Make sure to check opening hours, as some of them might have changed to adjust to Red.

Pick up restaurant vouchers

If you are a little reluctant to dine out, you can still support your favourite locals by purchasing dining vouchers. Check out their website or social channels for details.

Dining vouchers are a great token of appreciation for your foodie friends and family.

Buy the merch

We all love cool products from the places that delight our palates. From signature spices to limited edition merch, there’s plenty of treats to choose from. It’s also a great way to show some love to your local faves. One of those purchases where you “Do good, feel good”.

Get out there and explore

The Wellington Region offers so much amazing food. Gather your crew and plan a foodie adventure! Whether in the CBD, wider suburbs or for, along the coast or over the Remutakas, you’ll be rewarded with the most delicious kai.

Follow the guidelines

We know you’re all across this but a reminder never hurts! Here are some tips for a safe and smooth experience for all:

  • Have your “My Vaccine Pass” and secondary ID ready
  • Scan in using the NZ Covid Tracer app
  • Sanitise your hands
  • Wear your face mask until you’re seated
  • Respect social distancing with other diners
  • Enjoy your food!

Be kind

We are all human, and in these challenging times, it is important to be extra patient and compassionate.  Be kind to our hospo whānau.

That’s all for now. Stay safe, wash your hands and wear a mask. We've got this.
