Satya Chai Lounge Takeover

Embark on a journey through India and eat your way through street food-inspired snacks and curries with friends, whilst washing them down with cocktails inspired by the Indian spice trail. Sammy Akuthota of Auckland's Satya, Satya Chai Lounge and GG x Flamingo comes to Chow for one day only, bringing his family recipes and a hint of South Indian flair.

Sammy takes inspiration from his favourite street foods and old family recipes, showcasing dishes without holding back on authenticity. He and the Chow team have created a full takeover menu ranging from Goan-spiced ‘kurryage’ chicken and cheesy deep-fried paneer to Indian yakitori. Satya Chai Lounge cocktail favourites such as the chai Old Fashioned and spiced rum and tamarind Negroni will make an appearance, including some of Auckland’s coolest craft beers. Sammy will also be selling spices from his pop-up Satya spice shop during the day.

Satya Chai Lounge is all about flavour explosions of Indian street food and sharing the joy. Aucklanders have been enjoying the Satya offering from Sandringham to Mt. Eden and Karangahape Road to Garage Project pop-ups. And now it's time for Wellington to get a taste.

"Shout Out" to Shanghai

The Shanghai Restaurant (est. 1948) on Courtenay Place, where Nando's and The Residence are now located, introduced Wellingtonians to an extensive menu of flavourful Chinese cuisine. It was a Wellington institution, with the local Chinese population using it as a meeting space and to play Mahjong. The pioneers of the Shanghai Restaurant have shown us and all of Wellington, that hospitality is about more than the food. It's about bringing people together, the food is just a bonus. Chow have taken the popular westernised Cantonese dish, sweet and sour pork, and given it a modern Wellington twist, with a Six Barrel Soda Co. Pineapple shrub and Boneface Brewing Co. Mango Sour.

Dish Description: A sweet Six Barrel Soda Co. Pineapple shrub and sour Boneface Brewing Co. Mango beer sauce with twice-fried pork marinated with onion ginger, garlic and soy, with pineapple and red capsicum, served with coconut rice.
Vegan/Vegetarian alternative: Crispy cauliflower.
