20 Aug 2021:

Kia ora Festival goers As you will be aware, over the past couple of days we've been consulting with the hospitality industry about the best time to restart Burger and Cocktail Welly.

The resounding feedback we've received from the industry is that while Burger and Cocktail Welly should continue, most places are unable to deliver a great Festival offering until at least Level 2 (Cocktail Welly must only run from Level 2 due to dining-in restrictions), with the optimum Festival experience at Level 1.

The intention is to restart Burger and Cocktail Welly at Level 2 for those venues who choose to serve these up, which may not be everyone. This means the all-important ratings won’t recommence until Level 1 to ensure an even playing field.  Please be assured that when we restart, you will be able to enjoy your Burger and Cocktail Welly’s for at least the same amount of time that was left to run in the original month-long programme.

For Festival Events we continue to work with event organisers - all Festival Events are still part of the programme, however the reality is for some organisers it's not feasible to postpone Festival Events. If you hold tickets to Festival Events you should have received communications from our ticketing agency iTICKET. Event organisers will be in touch as we know more about the level changes over the coming days/weeks.

In the meantime, there are a number of food and beverage suppliers offering delivery at Level 4 - you can check out the list on our website. Let us know if there's anyone missing from this list.

Stay safe, stay at home, wash your hands and wear a mask.

19 Aug 2021:

We hope you are settling into your bubble and if travelling have made it home safely. An update for you:If you have purchased Festival Event tickets, you should have received an email from our ticketing agency iTICKET with advice about rescheduling of Events. We will continue to work with event organisers to determine a new future date for all events and will advise ticket holders of new dates as soon as they are confirmed. If you had planned on attending a Festival Event over the next few days, and haven't recieved an email from iTICKET, please email us at

We continue to work with the hospo industry on arrangements for Burger and Cocktail Welly. Please be assured as soon as we are able, and the levels are right, the intention is to restart Burger Welly and Cocktail Welly. As you can appreciate, a lot of prep work goes into burger and cocktail creations and we want both the venues and you the diners to have the best festival experience so bear with us as we make the right plans.

18 Aug 2021:

Afternoon from Festival HQ, we hope you are all staying safe and well at home.

Further to our update last night, we're busy working through the impacts of this lockdown with our hospo community and will let you know as soon as any decisions have been made about the restart of Burger and Cocktail Welly.

For those that hold tickets to Festival Events due to run, please bear with us, we will be in touch directly with you in the next few days.

For now, please be kind to our hospo whānau, they're doing it really hard at the moment and facing significant challenges.

Please keep an eye out on their channels for how you can help them at this time. Stay safe, stay home, wash your hands and wear a mask.

17 Aug 2021:

You will be aware that New Zealand will be moving to Level 4 lockdown from midnight tonight due to a notified community case of Covid-19.

This means that any Festival Events and bookings you may have made for Visa Welly On a Plate venues will be on hold for the next three days, with a reassessment made in line with government advice.

We’re working through the calendar of Festival Events, and will be looking to reschedule every Event that is yet to run. In the instance you are unable to attend a future scheduled date, refunds will be available. We will be in touch with valid ticket holders as soon as possible to let you know changes and how this might impact you.

For Burger and Cocktail Wellington, we’ll be working with the industry on when these may be able to restart and will let you know as soon as those decisions have been made.

Please bear with us while we work through these changes. While we know people will be disappointed, the safety and wellbeing of our hospitality community, our staff and festival goers is of the utmost importance.

Stay safe, stay home, wash your hands, and wear a mask. We've got this.
